TENS Unit Workshops
The Use of TENS in Labor and Birth is an ACED advanced training workshop. This class will provide you with a basic understanding and practical application of the use of TENS units.
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is the stimulation of nerves by a low-voltage electric current. TENS is a safe and effective method of aiding in relaxation of muscle groups and blocking pain. Physical therapists and other health care providers use TENS units as a non-pharmacological/natural relief option for numerous conditions, such as chronic pain and muscle injury. TENS units can also be used through pregnancy, labor, and postpartum recovery to help with back pain.
By the end of this class, you should be able to:
discuss the uses of the TENS unit
identify the advantages of using the TENS unit during labor
describe ACED’s guidelines for use of the TENS unit
Cost: $85
The tuition cost for this workshop covers all course materials, including a TENS device. This workshop is not eligible for class package or early enrollment discounts.
The Use of TENS in Labor and Birth is approved by DONA for 3.0 continuing education hours as an advanced doula educational class. (DONA Program Number: 730-618R)
The Academy of Childbirth Educators and Doulas (ACED) does not certify persons in the use of TENS for medical purposes and does not accept responsibility or liability for use of a TENS unit by anyone attending this class.
